Three Communities.
One Plumbing Team That
Knows Them All.
Cambridge is not one place -- it is three former towns, each with its own character, its own building stock, and its own plumbing challenges. A stone heritage home in downtown Galt is a completely different job from a new subdivision house in Hespeler or an industrial facility off the 401.
MTAC works across all three communities and understands what makes each one distinct. That local knowledge is what separates us from plumbers who treat Cambridge as a single, generic market.
Three Communities, One Team
Cambridge was formed in 1973 by amalgamating Galt, Preston, and Hespeler. Fifty years later, each community still has a distinct identity -- and a distinct plumbing profile. Here is how we approach each one.
Galt
Heritage CoreGalt is the largest of the three communities and has the most significant heritage architecture. The downtown core along Main Street and Water Street features stone and brick commercial buildings dating to the mid-1800s, many of which sit along the Grand River. Residential streets around Dickson Hill, Blair Road, and West Galt contain homes from the Victorian and Edwardian eras.
Plumbing in Galt's older buildings means working with cast iron drain stacks that may be 80 or 100 years old, galvanized water lines encrusted with decades of mineral deposits, and building layouts that were designed long before modern plumbing codes existed. You cannot approach these jobs the same way you would a new build.
We assess each heritage property individually -- determining what can be repaired, what must be replaced, and how to route new piping through old walls and floors without damaging the character elements that make these buildings valuable. We have replaced drain stacks in occupied heritage buildings while maintaining water service to other units throughout the project.

Preston
Residential MixPreston sits at the confluence of the Grand and Speed rivers and has a character distinct from Galt. The housing stock is diverse -- heritage homes near the downtown core, mid-century bungalows and split-levels in established residential areas, and newer subdivisions on the eastern edges.
The diversity of housing ages means our Preston work ranges widely. One week we may be replacing a galvanized water service in a 1920s home near King Street, and the next we are roughing-in a new custom build in Riverside Park. Many Preston homeowners are undertaking major renovations -- kitchen and bathroom guts, basement developments, second-storey additions -- that require significant plumbing reconfiguration.
Preston's proximity to the 401 has also attracted commercial development. We handle plumbing for retail plazas, restaurants, and professional offices along the Hespeler Road corridor connecting Preston to Hespeler.
Hespeler
Growth CorridorHespeler is where much of Cambridge's new residential growth is happening. New subdivisions northeast of Hespeler Village have been going up steadily, and the area along Townline Road and Pinebush Road continues to develop with both residential and commercial projects.
Our new construction crews are well familiar with Hespeler development. We do full-scope plumbing for builders here -- underground sanitary and storm rough-in, in-floor heating connections where spec'd, domestic water rough-in through to final fixture trim. Townhome blocks and semi-detached builds are increasingly common, and we handle the shared-wall plumbing coordination these layouts require.
The older Hespeler Village core retains its small-town feel, with heritage commercial buildings and residential streets that still reflect the mill-town origins of the community. We bring the same care to maintaining these properties as we do to new builds.

Heritage Restoration & New Construction
Cambridge's plumbing market is defined by this contrast: some of the oldest building stock in Waterloo Region alongside some of the newest. We handle both, but the approach is completely different.
Heritage Building Plumbing
- 01Assessment first. We survey existing piping condition, routing, and material before proposing any work. In heritage buildings, what looks like a simple repair can reveal cascading issues.
- 02Minimally invasive routing. We plan pipe runs to avoid damaging plaster walls, original hardwood, and stone foundations wherever possible.
- 03Material compatibility. Connecting modern PEX or copper to existing cast iron or lead requires proper transitions. We use code-compliant adapters and do not cut corners on dissimilar-metal connections.
- 04Phased replacement. For occupied buildings, we plan the work in stages to maintain water service and minimize disruption to tenants or homeowners.
New Subdivision Construction
- 01Underground coordination. We work with site services contractors to connect each lot to municipal sanitary and storm before foundations are poured.
- 02Volume scheduling. In subdivision work, timing is everything. We match our crew deployment to the builder's construction schedule, moving from lot to lot as framing progresses.
- 03Consistent quality at scale. Whether it is house #3 or house #53, every installation meets the same standard. Our QC process ensures nothing slips when volume is high.
- 04Inspection readiness. We know what Cambridge inspectors look for and prepare every rough-in accordingly. Failed inspections cost builders time and money -- our pass rate reflects our attention to detail.
The 401 Industrial Corridor
Cambridge's Highway 401 corridor is one of the most active industrial and commercial zones in Southwestern Ontario. Toyota Motor Manufacturing's presence has anchored a broader ecosystem of manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics operations that require specialized plumbing.
Industrial plumbing is a different discipline from residential. We handle process water connections, industrial floor drains, high-volume waste systems, backflow prevention assemblies, and washroom facilities for large employee populations. These projects often require coordination with engineers and environmental compliance requirements that residential work does not involve.
The commercial development along Hespeler Road, Eagle Street, and the Conestoga Boulevard corridor also keeps our commercial crews active. Restaurants, medical offices, retail plazas, and mixed-use developments all need plumbing contractors who understand commercial code requirements and can work within tenant lease timelines.
Manufacturing Facilities
Process water systems, industrial drainage, employee washroom facilities, and high-volume waste handling for Cambridge's manufacturing sector.
Backflow Prevention
Annual testing and installation of backflow prevention assemblies required for industrial and commercial connections to the municipal water supply.
